Here are a few of my favourite places to eat, drink, see and do in Florence.
Sandwich Shops
Most people will tell you to go to All’Antico Vinaio BUT there is usually a massive queue. If you want to skip the queue, or go somewhere less touristy, here are my alternatives:
- Pino’s Sandwiches – I love their Springtime sandwich with prosciutto, mozarella, fresh tomatoes and pesto.
- I Fratellini – they sell 2 EURO glasses of wine (you can’t go wrong with that!). It is standing room only though!
- Vinaino Fiorenza
Gelato Spots
- Grom
- Festival del Gelato – lots of ice creams, frozen yoghurts and affogatos to choose from.
- Vivoli – they have the most popular/ famous affogato in Florence, so worth the qeue. It’s closed on Mondays though (this caught me out last time I was in Florence 🤣)
- La Gelatiera – if you are a tea lover, their earl grey gelato is delish!
- Perché no!
Cool Spots / Hidden Gems
- Giunti Odeon Bookshop – a beautiful bookshop / cinema inside an old Art Deco Theatre (worth stopping by even just for 5-10 mins).
- Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella– the oldest pharmacy in the world – they sell beautiful smelling perfumes (very spenny!) but still worth a visit.
Restaurants
- Antica Trattoria da Tito – a rustic, proper Italian trattoria. It’s hard to get a reservation, so best showing up close to opening and queuing for a table / pleading with the staff lol. In return, you get amazing food and wine in a lovely restaurant.
- Osteria Il Giardino di Barbano – a relaxing restaurant with a massive terrace at the back – perfect for long Summer evenings.
Bars
- Caffè del Verone – beautiful views of the Duomo, great for an aperitivo at sunset. It is on top of a Museum, so can be hard to find. You need to take the lift/elevator right to the top floor to find the bar.
- Grotta Divino – a great wine bar in Piazza Santa Croce which has a MASSIVE Italian wine list you can buy by the glass.
Wine Windows
- Cantina de’ Pucci
- Babae
